Annual Home Maintenance Checklist

Your home is your greatest investment. You spend the majority of your time there, and taking care of it is important to make sure you can continue to enjoy your time living there for years to come. Thinking about all of the small things in your home that have to be updated and maintained every year, is daunting. It’s a lot to think about. But if you break it out into what things need to be replaced and maintained every year, you can space them out and get them fixed as you can handle it throughout the year. We’ve even broken it out into seasons, to make your home maintenance easier.

Spring

As winter ends, there are a handful of things that you should do to clean up the mess of winter. If you have central heat and air, you should have your HVAC system checked. You tend to use it a lot during the winter months, and will probably use it copiously in the coming summer months, so spring is the best time to get it maintenanced. Your plumbing should also be checked now that winter is over, to make sure that there are no leaks caused by frozen pipes.

Summer

Summer is the time of the year that you want to be enjoying your home, not fixing it! Your should switch the direction your ceiling fans rotate to optimize cool air flow, and your air filters for your central air unit should be replaced monthly, since this is the peak time to use your central air.

Fall

Getting prepared for Fall mostly requires that you prepare for winter. Making sure that your home will be able to heat up, and that everything is properly insulated and ventilated to make your home more efficient and save you money is the most important part of this process. Your dryer vents are also important because you’re likely to be washing a lot of laundry this fall!
